舊約綜覽 (CLS-1114-25SP)

Upon completion of this course the student should have a conceptual foundation out of which to begin to understand the Old Testament as well as a basic grasp of the issues, methods, tools, and contexts of the interpretive enterprise. Each student should:

1. Demonstrate an enhanced love for the OT, and respect for its authority as Scripture.

2. Demonstrate an understanding of OT’s content, structure, message, and interpretation.

3. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of literary, theological, historical, cultural, and geographical setting.

4. Demonstrate an adequate foundation for continued study including familiarity with all valid interpretation tools, ability to evaluate and utilize current periodical literature, reference materials and commentaries related to OT study.

5. Have new insights for studying and accurately interpreting the Scriptures.

6. Have renewed desire for Christians to clearly understand biblical truths and apply them in their lives.

Online Participation: 25% Set aside about three hours each week to watch video lectures and participate in online interaction.

Weekly Open Book Quizzes: 25%

These quizzes will cover the weekly lecture material and the assigned reading as determined by the instructor.

Open Book Mid-term examination: 25%

This test will cover the lecture material and the assigned reading as determined by the instructor.

Open Book Final examination: 25% This test will cover all lecture material given since the mid-term examination and assigned reading as determined by the instructor.

This course will span 12 weeks. Students set aside four hours for themselves each week to watch recorded lectures and participate in online exercises. There will be weekly open-book quizzes as well as open-book midterm and final examinations.
