COURSE DESCRIPTION
課程簡介

This course is a foundational introduction to the background, content, careful examination and interpretation of the New Testament, with a survey and study of each of the books of the New Testament.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course the student should have a conceptual foundation out of which to begin to understand the New Testament as well as a basic grasp of the issues, methods, tools, and contexts of the interpretive enterprise. The student should be able to:

1. Demonstrate an enhanced love for the New Testament, and respect for its authority as Scripture. 表現出對新約的熱愛,並尊重其作為聖經的權威。

2. Demonstrate a deepened grasp of the content of the books of the New Testament. 對新約各書的內容有更深的掌握。

3. Demonstrate a basic understanding of the nature of the Greek, Roman, and Jewish worlds into which Christianity began. 對基督教在希臘、羅馬和猶太世界的性質有基本了解。

4. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of hermeneutics, literary, theological, historical, cultural, and geographical setting. 表現出對釋經學、文學、神學、曆史、文化和地理環境的基本知識。

5. Appreciate the various genres of New Testament literature such as gospels, history, parables, miracle stories, and narrative. 欣賞新約文學的各種體裁,如福音書、曆史、比喻、神迹故事和敘事。

6. Apply the content in such ways as to promote personal Christian growth and further the individual’s mission and ministry. 運用所學內容,促進個人基督徒的成長,推動個人的使命和事奉。  

These objectives will be measured by class discussion, written exams, and writing.

Over the course of the semester, the following evaluation exercises will be used to determine the level of mastery of course content achieved by each class participant: 在整個學期中,將使用以下評估練習來確定每個班級參與者對課程內容的掌握程度:

1. Reading and Summaries 閱讀與總結 (40%) Students will read at least five books from the NT during this semester. Students must read: Matthew (or Luke), Acts, Romans (or Corinthians), Hebrews, and Revelation. Also, students will write a short paper on each book. These will consist of: a summary of the book(s), its main idea or purpose, some major themes, and how it fits into the history and theology of both the Old Testament and New Testament. Each book summary should be about 1 page. 本學期學生將閱讀新約至少五本書。學生必須閱讀:馬太福音(或路加福音)、使徒行傳、羅馬書(或哥林多前書)、希伯來書、和啟示錄。此外,學生還將在每本書上寫一篇短論文。這些內容將包括:本書的摘要、其主要思想或目的、一些主要主題,以及它如何融入舊約和新約的歷史和神學。每本書的摘要應約為一頁。

2. Book Outlines 書本大綱 (30%) 

Students will produce book outlines for three of the biblical books read (choose among Matthew [or Luke], Acts, Romans [or Corinthians], Hebrews, and Revelation) and summarized for the reading assignment. Outlines should be thorough and not merely based on headings found in a particular English version but thoughtful analysis. Outlines should account for important literary movements and changes throughout the book, showing at least three levels of outline. Outlines will be about 3-5 pages for each book. 學生將為閱讀三本聖經書 (選擇其中: 馬太福音[或路加福音]、使徒行傳、羅馬書[或哥林多前書]、希伯來書、和啟示錄) 寫總結和書本大綱,大綱應該是全面的,不僅僅基於特定英文版本中的標題,而是基於深思熟慮的分析。大綱應說明整本書中重要的文學運動和變化,至少顯示三個層次的大綱。每本書的大綱約為 3-5 頁。

This course will span 12 weeks. Students set aside four hours for themselves each week to watch recorded lectures and participate in online exercises. There will be weekly open-book quizzes as well as open-book midterm and final examinations.

Rev. Terry Fung, PhD was born and raised in an ancestor-worshipped family in Hong Kong. Despite the repeated outreach from a Baptist church where he lived, he refused to give an ear to what they were selling as he was spiritually blind. Until the age of 23, God gave him a second chance to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ by sending him to London UK to receive his undergraduate education. God stirred up his heart to visit a Baptist church nearby. After the first visit, Terry went back home to pray on his own to confess his sins and to invite Jesus into his heart as his personal Savior and Lord.
God called Terry to the ministry and enabled him to get his Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Doctor of Philosophy in Systematic Theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Deerfield IL) in 1996 and 2000 respectively. Since his graduation from seminary, he had served in different churches in the States of CA, AZ, CT, and NV and taught theology to Master-level students in a seminary.

馮嘉樂牧師出生並成長在香港一個拜祖先的家庭。儘管他居住的浸信教會多次與他聯繫,但他拒絕傾聽他們所推銷的東西,因為他在屬靈上是盲目的。直到23歲,神給了馮嘉樂第二次聽到耶穌基督福音的機會,送他到英國倫敦接受大學教育。神激勵他去附近的浸信教會。當馮嘉樂第一次去教會之後,他回到家獨自禱告,承認他自己的罪,並邀請耶穌進入他的心裡,成為他個人的救主和生命的主。神呼召馮嘉樂加入事工,使他於1996年併且2000年先後獲得西南浸信會神學院的道學碩士學位和三一福音神學院(伊利諾伊州)的系統神學哲學博士學位。從神學院畢業後,馮嘉樂曾在不同的教會服事: 加利福尼亞州、亞利桑那州、康涅狄格州和內華達州; 並在神學院向碩士水平的學生教授神學。
